Gregory Vallianatos was born in 1956, and is a retired Greek journalist, communications expert, activist and politician. He was at the forefront of the Greek movement for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in the 1980s and was involved in AIDS activism from the earliest days of the epidemic. He is a founding member of Positive Voice, the association of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Between 1983 and 1996, we had a daily contract with death. The people that contracted AIDS melted away in pain and misery, weighing 25 kilos at death.
