Professor Emeritus of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, “Professeur Honoraire” of Genetic and Developmental Biology at Collège de France, President of Fondation Santé and President of the National Council for Research, Technology, and Innovation

Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Cell Biology at Harvard Medical School, and "Professeur Ηonoraire" at Collège de France but continues to maintain his research group at Harvard. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Cambridge and pursued his postdoctoral research at the University of Basel, in Switzerland as well as Stanford University. He has been a faculty member at Yale from 1983 to 1998 and subsequently at the Harvard Cell Biology department since 1998. He also served as Chief Scientific Officer at Biogen from 2012 until 2016. Using molecular and genetic approaches, the Artavanis-Tsakonas lab is examining how molecular and genetic signals are integrated to dictate cell fates and ultimately influence morphogenesis in development and disease.
